IntegraSense provides registered sign language interpreting across the UK, in person and online. We offer three distinct specialisms: British Sign Language / English interpreting, International Sign interpreting, and Deafblind interpreting.
These are not variations of the same service. Each requires its own skill set, preparation and professional judgement. We match the interpreter to the assignment, the setting and the individual – not to availability alone.
If you are not sure which service you need, use the guide below or tell us in your enquiry. We will confirm the right specialism before we book.
Which service do you need?
BSL / English interpreting
For a Deaf BSL user communicating with an English speaker.
Typical settings include healthcare, mental health, courts and police, education, employment and Access to Work.
If this is you: “We need a BSL interpreter for an appointment or meeting in the UK.”
International Sign interpreting
For events and meetings where Deaf participants use different national sign languages.
Typical settings include international conferences, academic programmes, cross-border meetings and hybrid events.
If this is you: “Delegates are coming from more than one country and do not share BSL.”
Deafblind interpreting
For a person with combined sight and hearing loss who needs access to communication and the environment.
Typical settings include health and social care, assessments, meetings, community and professional appointments.
If this is you: “This is not standard BSL cover – the person is Deafblind.”
Why these interpreting services are separate
BSL / English interpreting, International Sign interpreting and Deafblind interpreting involve different communication needs and professional skills. They should not be treated as interchangeable services.
British Sign Language is a complete natural language with its own grammar and structure. BSL / English interpreting enables communication between BSL users and people communicating in English.
International Sign is used in some international settings where Deaf participants do not share a national sign language. Assignments may involve preparation, collaboration with other interpreters and consideration of participants’ different linguistic backgrounds.
Deafblind interpreting requires an individual approach to both communication and environmental access. Depending on the person’s needs and preferences, this may include tactile or close-vision communication methods and adjustments to the physical setting.
Choosing the appropriate specialism is essential to providing effective access. IntegraSense considers the individual, the purpose of the assignment and the communication requirements before confirming the service.
